Here is the problem. I hate, with a passion, the uploading process for DA. Hate it! While I appreciate that DA makes us only upload one picture at a time which causes us to slow down and take a closer look at our work in order to decide what really deserves being displayed, it's so incredibly annoying sometimes. We all know how the upload process works. You give your work a title and place it within it's appropriate category, then you upload your work and do all the other fun stuff. Flickr's upload is an almost reverse process. With Flickr you upload all of you pictures and then you title and describe your work.
What would ultimately be nice is a combination of the two. Allow me to upload all of my stuff first. Let me upload the 40 photos I'd like to display in one batch and then allow me to do everything else. Once I've got those photos together I can then start deciding what I don't want displayed together and so on. Then on one page allow me to title and categorize each piece and add my keywords and comments.
Though, even as I type this I realize exactly why they don't do this. People will be uploading hundreds of things at a time and (just like Flickr) people's work will get lost in the process. Flickr has it's problems but really, it's not that people upload so many photos at once so much as the fact that Flickr lacks any real organization. You can't categorize your work.
Therefore the logical compromise on that would be that DA lets you upload multiple pieces but only say 5 at a time with a maximum of 20 per day. That sort of thing.
But really, this is never going to change. DA stays the same and those of us who enjoy the ease of batch uploading over uploading one piece at a time continue to bitch. I enjoy the DA community and will stick around but DA won't be getting my stuff as quickly as Flickr and Zooomr will.
